This #union is fighting for workers who build/repair roads, bridges, rails, buildings & infrastructure statewide!

This op-ed is worth a read. Projects like the QNS along the Lower Montauk line deserve to be part of a big, bold vision for New York transit. We agree with this editorial: "Instead, the governor must articulate and support a bold new vision for public transit and the future of the state and city that rides on it. It would be a hallmark achievement for the state’s first female governor to double down on the transportation system relied on most by women, caregivers, students and the aging."

Thanks for your support, presumptive state Assemblyman Juan D. Ardila! e are thrilled to be working not only with you but also with the Queens chapter of Transportation Alternatives to help build a better transit future for Queens. That means greenways, that means trains.
Stay on the lookout -- more news coming soon!

Fun fact for a Monday. Did you know that until the late 1800s, Maspeth Avenue ran across a bridge over Newtown Creek? These wood piles are all that remains of that structure!
A big thank you to @newtowncreek and @sunandair for such an enjoyable and educational cycling tour of the creek yesterday. It was great to learn about the history of the infrastructure in our community, and find inspiration for adaptive reuse like #BuildTheQNS.

Photo of the former New York, Ontario and Western Railway's station in Middletown, NY. The O&W was one of the first US railroads to be entirely abandoned. As with #BuildTheQNS, we hope that one day it might be reactivated to enable train travel between NYC and Central NY.

Happy July 4th! If you're staying local this weekend, head to Gantry Plaza State Park at 9:00pm for a great view of the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks. Then tell us how much easier it would be to get there if we #BuildTheQNS!

Our favorite map is "Routes of The Interborough Rapid Transit Company" from 1924. 100 years later, let's fix the transit desert in between the 7 Train and the L Train! #BuildTheQNS

Check out just how similar these tracks are to the Lower Montauk Line (the QNS) that we'd like to see converted to passenger rail.
We support the IBX because both the IBX are THE SAME KIND OF LINE. Same underused right-of-way. Same opportunities to close out a huge transit desert in our "outer boroughs."
Build the IBX, definitely, but also build the QNS.

Nothing says summer's here like New York City's beaches re-opening!
Public beaches are set to open on Saturday, including Queens' own Rockaway Beach.
Thinking of heading to the beach this weekend? You can take public transit to get there.

Nobody likes sacrificing their beach time to traffic jams, just another reason to #BuildTheQNS and help thousands of Queens residents living in our borough's transit deserts.

Happy for Southern Brooklyn but the city should not forget Queens! With more people working remote than ever, we need to fill in our transit deserts! #BuildtheQNS #govhochul #mta

We had a wonderful time last weekend cycling across Queens with members of the @transportationalternatives Queens Volunteer Committee and @elizabethcrowleynyc. Shout out to @communitealic for caffeinating the riders (photo 1) and @crossfitmiddlevillage for hosting a rest stop (photo 2). Better transit AND cycling infrastructure are needed across Queens!
#BuildTheQNS

As the saying does, "great minds.. ride a bike!" We're excited to join @transportationalternatives Queens Volunteer Committee for a ride across the borough this Sunday. We hope you'll join us starting at 9am from @communitealic, DM or email for more info!

Is there a better way to spruce up your Monday morning commute than a tour through Forest Park as the trees leaf out? The tracks pictured here are part of the Lower Montauk Branch as it runs through Forest Park, one of New York City's natural treasures. #BuildTheQNS

https://tinyurl.com/2p8tznf8 -- a very bold plan by Transportation Alternatives, but for this to work, Queens needs more trains to go with those bike lanes! End these transit deserts! #BuildtheQNS @transportationalternatives @nycmayor

On this day in 1869, the Transcontinental Railroad was completed, connecting the East Coast to the West Coast. 153 years later, let's re-connect East and West Queens! #BuildTheQNS 🚊

"...the city has changed drastically [since the subways were first built]. In recent years, the residential populations of Queens and Brooklyn have skyrocketed. Employers have migrated outside of Manhattan too, and we’ve seen robust job growth in neighborhoods like Long Island City, Downtown Brooklyn, Jamaica and Sunset Park. Queens is home to two world-class airports, the U.S. Open tennis tournament, and the most exciting baseball team in the major leagues, the Mets."
