Support the Line!

Join Friends of the QNS to tell the MTA that:

  1. ‘Reactivation of the Lower Montauk Branch’ must be included in their next 20 Year Needs Assessment report.

  2. Study the QNS as part of the IBX Environmental Review and keep these projects on the same timeline.

The QNS contributes to system capacity, improves system resiliency, and brings rail transit service to neighborhoods that have long been transit deserts.

‘Reactivation of the Lower Montauk Branch’ (aka “the QNS”) is being considered as a project to include in the MTA’s next 20 Year Needs Assessment Report, scheduled to be published in October 2023.

Further studying the QNS can and should be conducted by the MTA as part of the State and Federal Environmental Impact Review processes that are being planned for the Interboro Express (IBX).

Join us in telling the MTA and elected officials that we believe in this transit project!

The QNS would expand service on a freight rail line (the Lower Montauk Branch or “LMB”) to include passenger transit service at subway-level fares.

Local transit stops would run from Jamaica to Long Island City on the LMB. The QNS will connect to service that will run on the Interboro Express (IBX) from Brooklyn through Glendale to Astoria, connecting Queens to Brooklyn.

The QNS would run through a huge area of the borough where there is no train service – in fact, it would increase the area of Queens served by rail service by more than 13 percent – and even connect to the M train for greater connectivity to the rest of the subway system.
